««BackJohn Bennett's ride to work: Blackburn to Clayton
Distance: 14.3km
A reminder from John: "Work is a place to ride to".
This is basically a north south route. John uses Blackburn Road which has a designated bike lane until it meets Highbury Road. He then uses quieter southerly streets.
Begins at Blackburn Road near Blackburn Station (Melway 47 K9)and ends in Clayton area (Melway 79 H1)
- Go south on Blackburn Road to Highbury Road.
- Turn west into Highbury and then south into Rae Street.
- Turn west into Bennett Avenue (named after our ride contributor?!) and go through Tally Ho Reserve so that you emerge on Lawrence Road.
- Follow Lawrence Road south for a long time eventually crossing High Street Road.
- Continue on Lawrence for a while then turn right (west) to go into Wills, then immediately south into Ophir and immediately right into Regent. Follow Regent until you meet Waverley Road (Note that on the return ride John uses Regent, then continues into Bond, then Wills to Lawrence).
- Cross Waverley Road via the pedestrian refuge going south into Anthony Drive and west into Wilga.
- Wilga emerges on Forster. Follow Forster south, and then Gardiner.
Go through Monash University travelling south and east, using the ring road and emerging on the south side at the University's main entrance road on Wellington Road.
- You now need to ride slightly east and cross Wellington, to go south into Cambro Road.
You are now in Clayton industrial area.
